A short atlas with a sense of humour
Whether you are here for the temples or nature, we mapped the cities where both are worth the trip.
We only list temples we would build a trip around, and only in cities that are still good company after the gates close. The name says the joke out loud so the pages do not have to: the temple writing is straight, careful and checked.
How we choose
A temple earns a page if it is genuinely worth the journey and sits in a city with a real evening. That second rule is the whole concept, and it is why the atlas is short. Places with nothing to do after dark get left out, even when the building is extraordinary.
Every entry is checked before it goes up: the tradition it belongs to, the city it is in, and its coordinates. Temples that did not verify were dropped rather than guessed at.
Traditions, not one word for everything
A Thai wat, a Zen temple, a stupa and a Balinese pura are not the same building, so we do not file them under one label. Where a site is not a temple at all we say so: Fushimi Inari is a Shinto shrine and the Golden Temple is a Sikh gurdwara. Each gets its own category and its own mark.
These are working places of worship. We note dress codes and quiet hours, we do not photograph what we are asked not to, and the after-dark pages are about the city, never about the temple.
Why drawings instead of photographs
We do not own photographs of these temples, and we will not pass off stock images as our own reporting. Every card carries a drawn mark for its architectural tradition instead. It is honest about what it is, it loads fast, and the atlas looks like one thing rather than forty mismatched photos. Where you want to see the real building, the photos link goes straight to image search.

Tour, hotel, review-site and gear links on this site earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. It pays for the writing. It never buys a place on a list, and we do not publish a price, rating or booking figure we cannot pull from a live feed.
Hotel availability comes live from Stay22 for the dates you pick. If the feed is quiet we say so rather than guess. There are no invented review counts, no urgency nudges, and no numbers anywhere else on the site.
